You always want to be able to stay at a good place for a little while longer. Dingle is most definitely one of those places.
Today we needed to get ourselves to Kenmare though, on the Southern end of the ring of Kerry. And we figured that we would drive the full ring while we were at it. Except for one thing. Don’t ever take the weather for granted.
From Cahersiveen we took a short ferry ride across to Valentia island. Geokaun mountain, the highest point on the island, is said to have beautiful views of the cliffs and islands of this westernmost part of the ring of Kerry. We went through all the right motions, with no visibility. Today was just one of those days.

Kenmare is yet another lovely Irish town, with a wide range of pubs to pick from. Driving through the town, we were amazed that people were out cleaning the sidewalks and streets. Then we figured it out. Tidy Towns. Since 1958, Ireland has been running the annual Tidy Town competition. And it has become quite a thing, with committees, and groups and volunteers. The people we saw cleaning the sidewalks were volunteers. What a wonderful initiative. To be so proud of the town you live in, that you all pitch in and help clean up a little.

Ní ag am ar bith. Not at any time should you take nature for granted.
