There’s nowt as queer as folk…

At breakfast this morning, I wondered whether I might like to do some studies in the line of human behaviour. I find the way people behave quite fascinating.
In Berlin, I watched how some tourists made themselves some lunchtime snacks from the free ingredients provided at breakfast. :-/ Not only did they have heaps of rolls, about to be converted into ham and cheese rolls, but in the process of doing so, they were removing all the insides of the rolls, to make space for the cheese, ham, and whatever else they could successfully lay their hands on. This resulted in two plates containing piles of the insides of the rolls, the sizes of small antheaps! This morning, we watched how people filled their empty waterbottles at the watercooler, completely ignoring a large sign stuck on the same watercooler, requesting them nicely not to do this. Only outdone by one chap who proceeded to fill his empty cooldrink bottle with orange juice, emptying the dispenser in the process. Seriously?

We start the day with our usual city tour, which starts at Heroes square, one of Budapest’s major squares. A vast square with a statue that was completed in 1900. The statues depict the leaders of the seven tribes of Hungary.

Our path continues through the city. and up Gellert hill, to where the beautiful Mátyás-templom overlooks this stunning city. Here we get to wander around a little, before we are eventually dropped near the Chain Bridge, and left to, as our tour director  calls it, catch and kill our own.

It is almost impossible to see all the beautiful sights in Budapest. All the more reason to come back here some day, I guess. That, and the goulash soup, which we had, just to ensure that energy levels stayed up sufficiently.

By late afternoon, and after browsing an entire street filled with curio shops, we decided to brave public transport, back to the Mátyás-templom, in search of a shop that offered wine tasting. Here I left Niel, content as could be, while I continued exploring the quaint streets and shops.

Niel managed to taste 7 of Hungary’s best wines. Hungary has 22 wine regions, of which only 5 produce mainly red wines.  Unique cultivars included Kéknyelü (white), Hárslevelü (white) and Kékfrankos (red).

After supper at the hotel, we made use of the public transport once again, in search of some good nighttime photo’s.  I’ll leave it up to you to decide…..
