This entry is part 18 of 23 in the series Legends, Bohemians & Bratwurst - Europe 2013

Breakfast in Poland, Lunch in Slovakia, Dinner in Hungary.

We’re traveling to Budapest via Slovakia. A country that I never thought I could add to my list of countries I have been to. The trip takes as over the Tatra mountains, the highest range of mountains that form part of the Carpathian mountains, although we don’t really pass near the very high peaks.

The countryside is beautiful, just like most of Europe, really. Beautiful green hills, quaint villages, mostly with a beautiful old church. Admittedly, things are a little more dilapidated in Slovakia. And somehow, their houses feel like they are a bit narrower.

We stopped in Banská Bystrica for lunch. This copper mining city is tucked away in a beautiful valley, surrounded by the mountains, and has a stunning old town square. We are however warned that service in the restaurants can be very slow, so we decided to skip lunch and just see as much as we can in stead.

Rivers can add huge value to cities. We see it again in Budapest, and our dinner cruise on the (not so blue) Danube allows us to see just how beautiful this city is.

I cannot wait to get the tripod out and take some proper photo’s of Budapest!
