And all the people that come and go…

24 August 2017

People should really know better than to challenge me in any way or form. Even a vague hint towards an excuse to travel can end in… well…. a travel experience . And so, when a friend suggested that I should organize a tour for us, I most definitely took it to heart.

Of course a lot of research was done, and some stumblings upon exciting ideas. I was pretty much given free reign, which could be rather risky. But because this is bit like a maiden voyage for our friends, I wanted to make sure that we included a good variety of things to see. Let’s hope it pans out that way.

It goes without saying that the pain of long-haul flights had to be endured. This time we tried flying via Dubai. And, of course, we were hoping to at least see a bit of the Dubai attractions from the air. We did, although we are also quite happy to report that we would most definitely never want to live in such a barren and busy place.

Our initial destination is Venice. This always presents the directionless with a rather large challenge in terms of finding your accommodation in the maze of alleys, canals and bridges. We aced it. What we didn’t manage to ace was contacting the owner of the accommodation in order to get the key. But with the help of my daughter in Mauritius (!), we eventually managed to gain access. Twenty four hours after we initially departed – finally, we could relax.

We took a small walkabout to the very busy St. Mark’s square for a brief orientation session, and then settled into a side-walk cafe for some lovely pizza. And needless to say – got lost on our way back home.

It’s been a rather long day. Two days, really. And an early night is compulsory for the replenishment of senses of humor.
