Today we say goodbye to Emily. But we continue to be nice to her until she helps us get to Frankfurt.
Niel went for an early walk to get some more photo’s of Köln. I was content with what I saw last night.
Finding our way out of Köln was as to be expected. I would have to say that, as a city, I would not really recommend Köln. It’s a typical busy industrial city. The Dom is what makes it so very special.
We had an easy 180km drive to Frankfurt, and needed to return Emily and her little black number to the airport before 5pm. But we were planning to get it all done and back to the hotel by 2pm. We managed to get our timing almost right, until Emily got wind of our pending break-up, and started finding several bushes to lead us around. How very frustrating to figure out which one of the many splits in the road she is wanting us to take, when some more options frequently get added because of the now hated “U” word – Umleitung.
We decided to check ourselves into the hotel first, and hopefully our Trafalgar tour host can help us discard of Emily. By the time we managed to get to the hotel, I wanted no more of Emily and her misleading advice. Except that there was no-one really to help us discard of her, and so we had to set off once more in search of where we actually needed to drop her off.
ARGH!
I have never been a big fan of organised tours. I don’t like having to be carted around, and being shown things that I may not have wanted to see in the first place. Today, I was very pleased to get onto our bus, and be taken to Frankfurt’s Römerplatz. I did not miss Emily in the least. It was just entirely effortless.
I’m really looking forward to two weeks of rest.
