Our Random Music Selection this morning is an old man playing the piano in the dining room during breakfast. Play misty for me is probably fairly appropriate for background music for breakfast. It did however remind me of Uncle Jack at the Stage Door, back in our younger years. 🙂
We decided to visit Petřin Hill this morning. This hill is surrounded by beautiful gardens and walkways, and has a farnicular that takes you to the top, where there is a lookout tower that is a replica of the Eiffel Tower.
We walked up….
During my research, there were a few things that drew me to this hill. One was the church of St Michael, a wooden church that was originally built in the 17th century in the Ukraine, and seemed to have been moved around a little, until it finally got moved to Prague in the 1920’s.
Finding this church was not that easy, and somehow we managed to get ourselves to the top, without finding it. Here, Niel decided to go up the lookout tower for some photo’s. I was having none of that! The thought of yet another form of ascent that would potentially not be made easier by means of some mechanical device, was simply not acceptable! So I sat myself down on a bench under a tree, patiently waiting for the energetic. I’m so pleased I did. I was entertained by a man blowing huge bubbles with something as simple as two sticks and a piece of rope! And the levels of enjoyment this provided for the children, was even more entertaining.
On the way down the hill, I was now on a mission to find two things. That church, and the Hunger Wall, where I knew I would find some stairs with some statues of some rather thin people. Well – it’s not called the Hunger Wall for nothing, after all. Story goes that the wall was really only built to provide employment to the poor…. and thus… the hungry. Be that as it may – we never found the statues. But we did at least find the church. And I’m really please we did. It has a strangely quiet charm about it.
Next we set off to find a restaurant that I had read about, where we could potentially taste wine. This would also be our first encounter with the city’s tram system. We got the hang of the trams very quickly. They are great to quickly get yourself around Prague. I tried hard not to scold Niel for making me walk all those vast distances thus far!
We found the restaurant, but also found yet another wedding. Prague is obviously a popular spot for weddings.We figured it was time for that afternoon nap again. 🙂 We’re taking it easy, remember?
We had originally booked a photographic tour of Prague, which got cancelled because the rain on Friday. So we decided to take to the streets once more, armed with cameras and tripod. I love night photography, so we had some good fun, with more than sufficient photography possibilities.
There is a run-down building opposite our hotel. It looks rather vacant. I wonder how much they want for it…. ;o)
